Privacy Policy

1. Scope

This policy explains how Squabbler handles personal data for squabblehq.com. Squabbler is the data controller for the information described here. This page is maintained by the Squabbler team and describes our current practices; it is not an independent certification or audit.

2. What we collect

We collect only what the platform needs to work:

• Account data — email address, and where you sign in with Google, the name, email and avatar that Google returns.
• Profile data — display name, handle, country, languages, bio and avatar, all provided by you and optional beyond the display name.
• Debate content — squabble messages, transcripts, topics you create, votes you cast and reports you file.
• Activity data — points ledger entries, levels, squabble participation and aggregate view counts.
• Technical data — basic request and error logs generated by our hosting provider for security and debugging.

3. Why we use it

To create and secure your account, run debates and their timers, publish public squabble pages, calculate verdicts, points and leaderboards, moderate reported content, and diagnose faults. We rely on performance of our contract with you for core functionality, on legitimate interests for security, moderation and service improvement, and on your consent where you choose to publish optional profile details.

4. What is public

Your display name, handle, avatar, country, level and points are visible on public profiles and leaderboards. Messages posted in a public squabble form part of a public transcript that anyone with the link can read and search engines may index.

Private team side-chat is stored separately, is never published, and is excluded from transcript exports by construction. Individual votes are stored privately; only aggregate tallies are shown.

5. Cookies and analytics

We use strictly necessary storage to keep you signed in. We do not run advertising trackers or sell profiling data.

6. Processors and infrastructure

Squabbler runs on Lovable Cloud, which provides our managed Postgres database, authentication, realtime messaging and hosting. Where you use Google sign-in, Google processes your authentication. These providers process data on our instructions under their own data protection commitments. We do not sell personal data to anyone.

7. Security

Data is encrypted in transit over HTTPS and encrypted at rest by our database provider. Access to your rows is enforced at the database level with row-level security policies scoped to your authenticated identity, and privileged operations run server-side rather than being trusted from the browser. Administrative access is limited to the people who need it.

No online service can promise perfect security. If a breach affects your personal data we will notify you and any relevant regulator as required by law.

8. Retention

Account and profile data are kept while your account is open. Public squabble transcripts are retained as part of the permanent record of a debate, since other participants and voters have a stake in them. Technical logs are kept for a short operational period. When you delete your account we remove your profile and private data, and on request we will anonymise your name on past public transcripts.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, export, delete or restrict processing of your personal data, to object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to withdraw consent. You can edit or delete most of your data directly from your profile. For anything else, contact us and we will respond within one month.

If you are in the UK or EU you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

10. Children

Squabbler is not intended for people under 16. If we learn that we hold data from a child under 16 we will delete it.

11. International transfers

Our providers may process data outside your country. Where that happens we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
